Coordinator, YouthBuild
FT/PT:
Full-Time
General Position Description:
Provides personal advising and mentoring to participants in the YouthBuild Orange County program, a grant-funded pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 who have previously dropped out of high school. Develop individualized plans and job coaching in accordance with participant needs. Assist in providing outreach and wrap around support to ensure students successfully complete the program. Works collaboratively with YouthBuild team to ensure that grant expectations are met in accordance with federal guidelines.
Salary Range:
$41,447-$47,146 per year
Description of Job Function:
1. Provides wrap-around support to YouthBuild Orange County participants. Assists at-risk youth in obtaining academic and occupational skills training, support services and transitioning to full-time employment and the postsecondary environment.
Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.
Required Field of Study:
Experience in education, counseling, working with students and/or case management
Other Required Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience working with students in an educational setting to include such things as developmental advising, holistic student support, and/or student engagement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate interpersonally, orally, and in writing.
2. Ability to assess student’s developmental needs and translate theory into practice.
3. Ability to research related information and regulations, prepare reports and documents, and attend to details with a high level of accuracy.
4. Possess critical thinking skills in setting priorities, assessing situations, and making sound and prudent decisions.
5. Ability to collaborate with other departments and external partners to resolve student issues to full resolution.
6. Ability to continuously learn, interpret, and explain new knowledge regarding changes and advancements in federal, state, college policies, regulations and technology.
7. Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed.
8. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
General Working Conditions:
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and within the community staffed by professional and student staff members. The individual in this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, die cut machines, laminators, and fax machines. Some position responsibilities require tasks outside of the office, in either a classroom setting, programming venue, or outdoors.
While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 25 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
