The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

DPSS Museum Security is a full-service public safety department that works to meet the needs of the University of Michigan community. Our officers are highly trained security professionals equipped to serve all members of our community. We manage all security operations for the Museum of Art, Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, the Museum of Natural History and may also provide security services for other university buildings and events. We offer an integrated customer service approach to safety and security, while protecting the assets of the museums. We provide a safe community while improving the quality of life for all those living, learning, working, and visiting our community. As a Museum Security Officer, you will report to the Director of Museum Security.
We are a seven (7) day per week operation with 24/7 responsibilities. Work schedules may include weekends, afternoons, holidays and unanticipated overtime. This is a uniformed position following the DPSS uniformed dress code. There will be both stationary and foot patrol assignments, and building specific responsibilities.

These positions work onsite patrolling the University of Michigan community museums including the Museum of Art, Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, the Museum of Natural History and may also provide security services for other university buildings and events.
Pre-employment checks include passing a background investigation, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and physical examination.
All members of the DPSS team are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report offenses that come to your attention.
Work schedules may include nights, weekends, afternoons, holidays and occasional unanticipated overtime. This is a uniformed position following the DPSS uniformed dress code.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Police Officers Association of Michigan union, which contains and settles all matters concerning wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
