Reuters is looking for a U.S.-based reporter to join our global automotive team. The sector is undergoing a historic change with the transition to electric vehicles and the effort to develop self-driving technology. Tesla has proven an EV leader but is now pivoting to robotaxis as it struggles with falling sales and stiff competition from rising Chinese electric-vehicle makers. Legacy automakers are spending billions of dollars to catch up as the whole sector races for the next battery breakthroughs to make EVs more affordable. And yet all automakers are struggling with stalling EV demand globally, prompting a surge in sales of gas-electric hybrids and a rethinking of ambitious regulatory timelines for an all-electric future.
The beat will focus on major automakers operating in the United States and topics ranging from technological innovation to corporate strategy, politics and government policy, branding, safety, labor and the environment.
This reporter will work with a team of auto correspondents and editors in the U.S. and globally to provide exclusive news and insight for investors, industry insiders and general readers who rely on Reuters news through media partners and our own platforms.
In this role, you will report to the U.S.-based global automotive editor or a deputy. The position could be based in either Detroit or San Francisco.
Please note the application deadline is September 8th. Early applications are encouraged.
