Peer Support Apprentice - Acute Inpatient Psychiatry
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/13/2022. To qualify for this position, you must meet the following basic requirements: Basic Requirements:
-Must be a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
-Must have recovered from, or in the process of recovering from a mental health condition.
-Must have spent a minimum of 1 year in recovery from a mental health condition. Noteworthy: Please just submit a copy of your DD-214 - Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty to satisfy the basic requirements identified above. We do not need your extensive personal history at this time. The hiring official will obtain any supplemental personal history information needed. GS-5 Appointment Eligibility: In addition to Veteran eligibility, you must meet one of the following appointment criteria to apply:
-Service Connected Disability Veteran 30% or more.
-Eligible for Veterans Recruitment Act (VRA Appointment)
-Former Federal Employees with reinstatement eligibility.
-Current permanent Federal employee.
-Severely disabled applicants (not service related). Peer Support Apprentices GS-5: Peer Support Apprentices must actively pursue becoming certified as required to serve as a Peer Specialist. At the time of appointment, the supervisor will provide the Peer Support Apprentice with the written requirements for becoming certified, the date by which he or she must become certified and the consequences for not becoming certified by the deadline. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
Computer SkillsInterpersonal SkillsPsychologyTeamwork Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee will sit to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (such as books, papers), accessing transportation, and/or driving a government vehicle. The work requires patience and control of emotions. The work may require occasional use of appropriate techniques to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others. Working Environment: Work will be performed in a wide range of settings, including the medical center; in client group or family homes; in community-based outpatient settings, community agencies; or in transport vehicles (public or government). Work areas are often noisy, irregular, and unpredictable and can be stressful at times. Clients demonstrate varying levels of recovery and symptoms.
