Sr. Accountant – Retirement Reporting
The Controller's Office has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sr. Accountant– Retirement Reporting to work at Coral Gables Campus.
JOB SUMMARY
This position will be primarily responsible for assisting the Manager in the Employee Retirement Plan (ERP) audit and Form 5500 tax return. The senior accountant will also be involved in the year-end footnotes as it relates to investments. Included in this role is ensuring effective and efficient workflow, identifying, and assisting the Manager in implementing opportunities for improvement, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policy. This position also requires the ability to review investment and limited partnership agreements and to interpret transactions in a clear and concise manner. This role will display effective planning and organizational skills; be results oriented; and possess the ability to compe tently manage multiple priorities.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares Retirement Plan special period-end and year-end financial statements Reviews Trustee statement transactions and prepares monthly journal entries for input into the Retirement Plan accounting system Assists Accounting Manager with preparation of year-end related Retirement Plan audit work papers, audit schedules, and financial statements Tracks various large cash transfers of funds to/from investment accounts and reconciles to Trustee statements. Tracks divested securities to and from separately managed investment accounts Interacts directly with key members of the external audit team. Assists Accounting Manager with developing procedures related to the Retirement Plan financial reporting processes and recommends changes as needed Prepares Form 5500 tax return and inputs data into the tax software Performs other duties as assign ed
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field; Accounting degree preferred.
Certification and Licensing:
CPA or comparable equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 4-7 years of progressively responsible experience, including one year experience in Financial Reporting and strong experience in preparation and analysis of financial data
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
Commitment to excellent customer service and positive teamwork
Ability to handle stress and work well under pressure
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.
Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.
Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
