Technology is rapidly becoming an integral part of how businesses operate, evolve and advance and is creating an incredible opportunity for technology professionals within AbbVie to make a direct, relatable impact on AbbVie’s mission. At the same time, the speed of change in technology is faster than it was ever before. The COVID-19 pandemic has, additionally created a lasting impact on people’s thinking about working location, remote working, and the definition of work flexibility. These converging trends require us to take a strategic look at the future state of our Business Technology Solutions (BTS) organization and ensure that AbbVie BTS is ready now, for the future. We are seeking a passionate leader to help us define and implement the human capital management (HCM) including skill/capability needs, workforce planning/forecasting, and development strategy and operating model focus for AbbVie BTS which enables us to transform into an agile learning organization that can respond to the shifts both within the healthcare industry, but also within the technology domain.
You will take a leading role in shaping and executing the strategy of how we approach the operating model strategy and direction and subsequent human capital needs holistically. Through this strategic understanding and thought leadership, you will lead the BTS organization to define the key business questions and challenges facing our current state as well as readiness for the future. Translation of these questions/challenges into actionable and sustainable initiatives is essential to enable the development of recommendations and solutions.
To achieve the outcomes on the above charter, you will need to build a strong internal and external peer network, as well as strong partnerships with AbbVie HR and Human Capital Planning members, which allow us to anticipate opportunities and benchmark BTS’ workforce and operating model strategy against the best-in-class technology organizations and help differentiate AbbVie BTS as a top tier business technology organization within the industry.
You will drive the overall change journey for BTS with regards to the implementation of the HCM and Operating model changes. This includes stakeholder understanding, management of the change journey, communication planning, enablement, and driving adoption.
This role will report into our Senior Director, Strategy & Continuous Improvement and will work closely with your peers within the team, VPs of the individual business technology organizations (BTOs) and other key business and technology leaders throughout the organization.
Objectives: Build a collaborative partnership with technology and functional domain senior leadership. Develop and guide delivery of HCM and Operating model strategies that address prioritized business problems and align with our overall BTS short- and long-term strategies. Drive established outcomes through building strong partnerships across the AbbVie ecosystem.
Strategy & Influence: Collaborate with HR Business partner and BTS leaders on defining the talent needs of the workforce and talent strategies and Operating model strategies while addressing immediate challenges in the near term. Develops, adapts, and executes strategies to achieve key outcomes for all of BTS.
Process Improvement: Make significant contributions to improving our overall Operating model, HCM, and Capabilities strategies by synthesizing what are the correct strategies for each organization within BTS and implementing them. In Partnership with HR, establish a comprehensive location strategy for technology talent, that allows the organization to tap into talent who might otherwise not be accessible to us, while at the same time, define and communicate our location strategy to internal talent to ensure we can retain and maintain an extremely engaged technology workforce.
Change Management: In partnership with our OCM lead, craft an intentional change journey to drive adoption of the new operating model and talent and workforce strategies.
People Management: Responsible for managing and developing a team of leaders and individual contributors, building a high performing team.
Results: Work across multiple BTS leaders to create the 1–3 year prioritized roadmap for HCM strategies and Operating model and associated tactical plans. Evolve the operating model across BTS to adapt to the ever-changing environment. Evolve and embed an outcome-based focus across all parts of BTS that facilitates effective decision making in how we operate, hire, and develop as a technology organization.
In partnership with early career development team, refine our early career development program to ensure we have targeted strategies and university partnerships aligned to bring the best and the brightest technology talent entering the workforce, to AbbVie.
Impact: Drive and make decisions that influence the financial, employee and cultural impacts to BTS and AbbVie. Establish measures for monitoring success and making data driven decisions. Partner with all business technology leaders as well as HR to clearly define and implement an evergreen equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion strategy for BTS, which creates the strongest, most diverse technology organization within our industry.
Relationship Building: Builds collaborative relationships and effectively interacts frequently with business and/or technology senior leadership and vice presidents. Interactions focus on top priority project and influencing strategic decisions. Interacts well with diverse groups across business and technology functions and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.

•Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and 10+ years of experience. Masters degree and work experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred. Will consider 14+ years of relevant experience in a related technical field. •Effectively connects employee and BTS functional goals to business and/or overall Abbvie goals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to drive outstanding employee performance and engagement through developing, coaching, motivating, energizing and inspiring team members. •Experience managing teams of at least 10 people with a resource mix of managers, employees, matrixed teams, virtual teams, contractors and managed service providers. •Ability to communicate problems in terms that are understandable to BTS Leadership and end users at all levels. •Subject matter expert in technology and/or business domain. •Experience managing a budget of at least $10 million. •Experience in technology operation, strategy, planning and implementation and/or relevant business domain preferred. •Bachelor's Degree with 10 years’ experience; Master's Degree with 9 years’ experience; PhD with 5 years’ experience. .
