Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be part of one of several teams that builds and maintains the integrations to Financial Institutions that power our products. This engineering team works closely with our other product and commercial teams.

We value engineers who are lifelong learners and strive to stay on top of cutting-edge technology, keeping yourself up to date with the latest patterns, algorithms, technologies, and solutions.

What You’ll be Doing 

  • Developing connections to financial institutions from Day 1, together with your colleagues and product team, to lay the foundation for innovation.
  • Identifying and supporting improvements for how we build connections today to make them ever more reliable, scalable and maintainable in the future
  • Collaborating with senior technical staff and product managers to identify, document, plan contingency, track and manage risks and issues until all are resolved
  • Deploying software multiple times per day!
  • Working with technologies such as: Java, AWS, Cassandra, Memcached, Bazel, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Docker, gRPC, and MySQL - with all our microservices running on Kubernetes
  • Coaching and mentoring junior colleagues; guiding the team to solve problems
  • Operating and troubleshooting the team’s production system.
  • Designing and building interfaces and reusable components for your own team
  • Providing detailed code reviews for teammates and assisting with documentation and best practices.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related subject area – OR - at least 2 years of relevant industry experience with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA) - OR - 0 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Alternatively, in lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of industry experience with a bootcamp or coding academy certification

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Expertise with Java or Python
  • Expertise with HTTP based communications
  • Expertise with CI/CD methodologies, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Expertise with AWS
  • Experience in designing and testing APIs
  • Experience with code repository management, code merge and quality checks
  • Experience in managing application development and software delivery lifecycle
  • Expert understanding of Object-Oriented Concepts, and Service Oriented Architectures
  • Experience with Github
  • Experience with any of the following: Memcached, Cassandra, Bazel, or Elasticsearch.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 130,800 to 170,000 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable).  Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.  Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.

Work Location: This position is located in our New York office, but we accept hybrid setups.

Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
